He is a very large strong horse. Under saddle he has a long high stride and a confident gait. A truly stunning horse. Taking after his father, Prince has exceptional rideability traits that allow all levels of rider to thoroughly enjoy riding and training this youngster. Prince has the rare combination of 3 excellent dressage quality paces as well as outstanding jumping ability and scope plus the athleticism and bravery needed for cross country. He has a quiet trainable temperament as well as shows horse conformation and good looks. Prince’s sire – Contenda is the ultimate dual-purpose sire. Contenda is from the first foal crop of the 2001 Adelheidsdorf Stallion Performance Test winner, Contendro 1. Contendro 1 is by one of the worlds leading showjump makers, Contender. Contendro 1 is a highly sort after sire who is known to reliably produce very versatile progeny of the highest quality. His progeny can be found competing successfully at the highest levels in showjumping, eventing and dressage. So far Contendro 1 has over 30 licensed sons. Both Contendro 1 and his sire Contender are ranked in the best 1 % of breeding stallions by the German FN. Contenda’s dam line carries the respected dressage blood of Bolero. Bolero has sired upper-level dressage horses with 3 of his offspring currently in the World Breeding Federation of Sport horses Top 25. He has also sired 51 approved stallions including Brentano I and II, Beltain (sire of Bellissimo), and Buenos Aires. Bolero is 3/4 thoroughbred, presenting a refined modern riding horse influence whilst maintaining the movement of his Hanoverian ancestors. Contenda’s damline also carries the thoroughbred blood of Der Lowe, a stallion known to produce offspring with great heart and courage, who excelled in eventing and dressage. True to his pedigree, Contenda has proven himself to be a highly versatile stallion with wins in official dressage, eventing and showjumping competitions. As a result of this versatility, Contenda has campaigned with great success to 2* level eventing with firstly Chris Burton and then Shane Rose. According to Shane Rose, Contenda has “the ability to go for 4* level and beyond”. Due to injury, Contenda was forced to retire in 2015 just as he was ready to embark on 3* competition. Contenda’s progeny are proving to be highly versatile with progeny being found competing successfully in all of the Olympic disciplines as well as winning in the show and hack ring. Contenda progeny have won and placed in Young Horse competitions plus open official classes in showjumping, eventing and dressage.
